Curls: I've just returned to artwords with this entry. It's a doodle I started in one of my journals. I finished it earlier this evening. I like the colours and curves and swirls and words. I hope you like it too.

Botanicals: a most wonderful theme this week for Artwords. I love everything about botanicals and I love the vintage aspect of the word.
For this piece I've used tea stained paper on card stock. I've applied an image from an old book and added words of my own composition. The hand made paper pieces are from a collection I made a number of years ago. They have dried herbs and flowers from my own garden added. I just made the shipping tags with some herb seeds I had leftover.
And the words, in case you hadn't realized, are really about this:
"the most difficult part
standing back
watching her grow"

Angels be with you.

Journal Pages and "Woman" for Artwords:
The second page of the journal pages refers to Pauline. You can find her blog here. I also posted about treasures that I received from her at this post.

"Woman" is the theme for the 50th week of artwords. I have chosen this stamped image photo of Greg's Auntie Dot, a wonderful lady. There is also some old german writing which I turned into a stamped image. I especially like the idea of "soft yet strong" for woman. I think this portrays much in only a few simple words. Some of the words I've chosen are not quite as universal - such as "exotic" but "beautiful" fits the majority - beautiful inside and out. If you think you are not beautiful - I would ask you to think again. I think you are beautiful. And there are probably many others who think so too, even though they neglect to tell you.
Collage on watercolour - acrylic background. Letters for "woman" are from the very creative "Artsyfran"

"Oh beautiful woman -
Love yourself".

Angels be with you.

"OLD" - I sometimes wonder what an object would say if it could speak. This chair was being stored for many years in the old, rough basement of the farm on which I grew up. It was apparently the only surviving piece of the house in which my father and his siblings matured. The house burnt down when my father was still a child. Now this chair has a place in our living room. It is in rough shape but I like to leave "old" in its comfort.

MORNING - for artwords
This picture was taken last Wednesday, February 14 th. The temperature was - 30 degrees, pretty much the same in centigrade and fahrenheit. I took a few photos after walking about half a block. I don't think my hands could have managed doing any more without my heavy mittens. The next day, Thursday, the temperature rose by almost 30 degrees centigrade from what it had been the day before. People had been waiting anxiously for almost a week for Thursday. Fortunately that time the forecast was accurate.

Funny though, on the Tuesday morning when I took Billy dog for walk I encountered a couple of others out doors. Though the temperature was - 24, the comments were about "what a beautiful day". There was not a wind. The - 24 seemed comparatively warm. We may still have our snow for another six weeks and we could still get a number of blizzards but we'll all be hoping for no more of the frigid temperatures, at least this winter.

Happy morning light to you.

Wind - the word for artwords this week. Wind is important to me. I decided I would try to create something that would speak simply about wind. This very simple journal quilt says part of what I know. I have also written a small piece for windyangels and you that you might like to breeze through.

Looking through the window
my eyes caught the sparkle
of a mystical, magical land

The horses ready to alight
on the minutest of sleighs
barely visible to mine orbs

"Wait for me"
I whispered
but the light
was changing

As I turned for my cape
snowflakes floated
no longer sparkled

Looking through the window…

This is a photograph I took this morning from our front window. I was thinking of this week's theme for artwords, which is window. After I put the photos to computer I started to play with this window. I had a grand time. I was transported...

One of today's contributions for Art Everyday Month, which is drawing near to an end.

November 25, 2006, second post; AEM, Artwords: I was asked by a friend to do some Christmas cards. This is more challenging. I have to do something she'll like. A couple of the things she likes are birds and outdoors. She chose the papers. I didn't have any photos of winter birds. I decided to do this picture from some clipart I had. I did it my own way. Then I discovered that this week's theme for artwords is birds. I'm cutting it close. A new theme goes up tomorrow. I actually didn't have the correct link ever since I changed my blog template. When I redid that today I discovered "bird". So I was under the wire. The card actually isn't complete. I may change it totally after I check with Jen.

Anyway, I was quite scared about the drawing. It's not really something I do very often or very well. I was pleased though. Even if Jen doesn't care for it, the drawing was good practice. And once again I was reminded that though I couldn't find something I was looking for at the last minute - my good pencil crayons, sometimes it works out better. I used mostly the water soluble caran d'ache. YES, the blending was perfect.

I love birds. Chickadees are birds that I commonly see and hear. This winter I'll try to get photos. They are very tame. I've heard of people feeding them from hand. Beautiful chickadees.
