Autumn 4x4s: For this week's prompt at Inspire me Thursday the word "square" was chosen. If you are an artist you know that this opens numerous possibilities. I've decided to go with 4x4s. Because I love autumn textures and colours and feel so blessed at this time of year, I've decided to go with an autumn splendour quartet. The fourth is quite different from the rest in that the background is blue and the picture is different. I happened to already have it cut to a 4x4 size.
This first one was done on a piece of yellow cardstock. I printed my own background of rust onto it and then applied gold ink. After a couple of minutes I rubbed the ink with a baby wipe. Next I applied a stamp over the entire piece. I used the printed photo and sewed it on. I finished it with stamps for the words and the addition of the brad.











The background for the second was done on watercolour with acrylic and water. Then I used inks which I again rubbed off with baby wipes. I used stamps and I think some walnut ink spray. I glued the picture this time and also used a sakura goldie for some of the words. I did a tiny bit of sanding on the photo edges.

















The third was just done on a piece of decorative paper.
For this one I tried using a gel transfer for the words. Same picture, same sewing, same application of brad finalized this one.



















The fourth was using a blue background done with acrylic and water on watercolour paper with a bit of salt. After it was dry I printed some of my own handwriting which had been scanned and stretched a bit, onto the paper. Different picture, same treatment. I used a gold ink pad and pencil eraser to do a couple of gold stamped images.

Fairy forest - just happened. This is one of the backgrounds I've done with acrylic on watercolour paper. I love the effects I get and often hate to cover with collage or cut to use for smaller pieces. If I were extremely talented with drawing I would probably try to do some tiny fairies in the purple forest. I'll be talented and envision them there. That comes more easily. I need tons of practice. I'll just leave as is for the moment. 8 1/2 x 12 inches.

Flowers, flowers everywhere: I was working the past couple of day in any spare moments on my get your doodle on ATCs for Christy's swap. Flowers seemed to want to appear on these
little 21/2 x 3 1/2 inch pieces of watercolour paper which had been painted with acrylic paints and water. I love the paper for backgrounds. I used my "gelly rolls" - mainly for the borders and my black fine uniball, which I also love for the doodles.

Going bananas? Not much accomplished again. I guess I need some tickles today. Not certain how they'd go with my headache and jaw problems. Ah, I'll just think about tickles. There, that's better.

The pieces of fabric are only two of the fabulous pieces I got on Thursday at Haus of Stitches. I also showed the folks there some of what I've been doing. I've only ever had questions for them before. I've never actually shown them what I've done - because I've never actually had anything done before.

The other pieces are just beginnings. I don't have much energy and motivation to actually complete anything. The photo of our daughter (scan is not good) is printed onto a 7 1/2 x 11 piece of watercolour prepared with gesso. I then applied some acrylic paint. I was mostly thinking of "sometimes", the hurtful part when I did it. I need lighter colours on it. I'm not certain about how I'll put the poem on and what else I'll do with it yet. Her eyes may need some work with something. If you don't see anything about it in next few days you can know I wrecked it with experimentation. The others are art journal pages I've started and the cover. The piece that's pink in background is thin paper, not sure if I'll go anywhere with that. Till tomorrow...
