Creative every day: sometimes I lose track of what I've done, shared and completed. These are some sketches, some from quite a while ago. They were mostly done while I was waiting for appointments of one kind or another, as with the journal page with lots of rub on letters. I ran out of my fave black letters. I guess I should have known better. That's OK. The message is still the same. I finished the two journal pages yesterday. Actually has been quite awhile since I've felt like doing any.


I also did some preliminary painting on some canvases yesterday.I've got a caulking transfer happening on one of those. I have to wait till later tonight (24 hours) to see results of that.

Simple creativity, fun creativity: Last night I did a couple of these backgrounds using a technique I learned from Helene. I got a little heavy handed with the paint and salt but had fun anyway.





I then printed a couple of images on this one for the start of a collage. I'm not certain what I'll do with it next. I need time to think about it.





On Saturday I dyed a paper and some shipping tags with left over blue dye from Easter which is made with purple cabbage. I love the colour of that dye. I'm hoping to determine if I can use the same dye on fabric. The turmeric also makes a beautiful yellow.

For the next week I anticipate very little time for play and blogging. I have many meetings. Tonight is dress rehearsal for the 40th anniversary concerts of St. Pete's chorus. We have our away concert on Friday night and our "at home "concert on Sunday afternoon. We also do a couple of songs at another concert on Saturday night. Our local concert is actually at Muenster Church, what used to be called St. Peter's cathedral. There has been restoration done to the beautiful paintings of Berthold Imhoff.

The initial director for the chorus has returned to the area and still sings with us. We will be singing some of the favourites from over the years. Chorus of the Hebrew slaves - from Nabucco is one of my favourites that I'm very happy we are performing. We sing it in English and don't sound quite as good as this group of which I've found the audio.

As I'll be so busy and unavailable over the next few days I'll leave you

About knitting and holes:
I'm feeling quite proud of my knitting and how this little hat is taking shape. I really have decided that knitting is to be a fun, relaxing time for me. We had our final class last evening but I discovered that typically knitters get together on Tuesday evenings, unless the shop owner is away and no one else is available to "be responsible". I prefer doing things in a solitary fashion but we'll see.

The little hat and the circular needles were not my choice. The pattern and circulars are what they use to teach knitting here. I like it - very simple for someone beginning. I'm told socks are also very simple, like the hat. That will be next. BUT I will not start before this is finished. I have too many unfinished projects around my studio - which is most of our house - the kitchen (at the moment) and Cat's (daughter) bedroom are exempt.

About the relaxing - I keep getting holes in my project. Last Tuesday Kevin said they are for the buttons. He spoke as if from experience. At another place a friend suggested they were for the horns after I'd said the hat was for cat. he was teasing. I'm not sure if she caught on to the joke. Last night some of the different people there thought buttons were a terrific idea. The teacher, regular one not there, did not know why the holes. She worked out the most recent one. So far I can laugh about these holes. Hmmm, now if I could only sort out the holes in my life.

Oh yes, I did not want to forget to share one answer to my question of "how long have you been knitting?"
"I've been knitting six years. I gave up smoking and started knitting." HINT, HINT

AEM - November 15, 2006: Day 2 on this blue piece. I'm not getting much art done these days and not quite certain how I'll proceed with this piece.

Baby Jesus - You may recognize one of the fabric pieces I'd shown the other day. The background was done with caran d'ache Neocolor ll (water soluble) and water brushed on. I drew in the picture with caran d'ache today. I'll need to soften the cradle yet a bit, no, not more straw, more shading. Again uncertain of how to finish - I might turn these both into little quilts. They are about 5 inches X 7 inches. Oh yes, do you think it would wreck it to use silver fiber on the rays of starlight?

Play time: Thinking on Christmas - I finally found some play time. Unfortunately the first one I did was just a practice piece. I guess my brain was not functioning on "think" but just "create". I forgot that if I put a damp press cloth on a piece of printed mulberry paper, whoops! It can work. I just have to remember to put it on the fabric instead of the image. A good lesson to learn.

I also played a bit with fabric pieces and stitching on that piece also. Maybe I can finish this one tomorrow.

My new mantra to self - play, play, play - play softly. Be gentle with yourself.
